Specialized Support Group for Parents and Caregivers

Parents and caregivers of youth who have sexually offended will benefit from a new 12 week support group offered by DFCC.   Research has shown that participation is the specialized group improves the ability for parents to cope with the situation, reduces the risk for the youth to reoffend and expedites the treatment process for the youth and the family.

Family support plays a vital role in the healing process for the youth but often caregivers experience their own feelings of guilt and pain.  Participants in the group at the SAFE-T Program (Thistletown Regional Centre) have reported that involvement in the group reduced their feelings of isolation, gave words to feelings and was a helpful and positive experience.  “We had the chance to talk with others......no one else in by life knows or understands what it’s like....”

Working in partnership with Thistletown Regional Centre SAFT-T program and funded by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, DFCC is pleased to be able to support Durham Region families.  To view or print the complete brochure please click here.
