Custody and Access Assessments are available directly to the public, on a fee-for-service basis, for the purpose of providing clinical reports and recommendations to the Court regarding the best interests of the child(ren) in separation and divorce matters. Through Custody and Access Assessments, parents are assisted in resolving their disputes where possible and are encouraged to set aside their own issues to focus on the needs of the child(ren). Custody and Access Assessments attempt to identify and understand the needs of children in separation and divorce matters and the parent's (or other party's) willingness and ability to meet these needs. The Durham Family Court Clinic has been conducting Custody and Access Assessments since 1985. Referrals are accepted from clients, lawyers or Court ordered pursuant to Section 30 of the Children's Law Reform Act. The cost of the assessment is paid by the client. A non-refundable administration fee of $200 is required with the referral information. For clients who are paying directly, please contact the Durham Family Court Clinic for current rates. |
