Parenting Capacity Assessments

Parenting Capacity Assessments are completed when the Family Courts or the Children's Aid Society have questions about parenting capacity and case planning in keeping with the best interests of the child(ren). Parenting Capacity Assessments, pursuant to Section 54 of the Child and Family Services Act of Ontario help parents, the Courts, lawyers, and Children's Aid Societies to assess what is best for children and make recommendations regarding the same.

Referrals are accepted directly from the Durham Children's Aid Society or Court-ordered. The assessments are delivered through a multi-disciplinary team of Social Workers, Psychologists and Psychiatrists. Such assessments have been completed by the Durham Family Court Clinic since 1985.

The cost of the Assessment is negotiated with the Children's Aid Society.
