Nutrition Program (Breakfast & Lunch)
The DFCC's Collaborative Day Treatment Program offers an educational program within a therapeutic setting for Durham Region's youth. On the surface, the program looks like most classroom settings, but is actually a highly specialized program to assist youth who have multiple challenges, which limit their social, emotional and academic success. The majority of our students come to school hungry and have no lunch to sustain them. Over the past few years a Nutrition Program has been established to help address this issue. Through the generous support of donors, we are now providing lunch 4 days per week, plus a nutritious breakfast/morning snack 5 days per week, with over 5,000 meals/snacks being served during the school year.
The result of this effort has been amazing! Beyond meeting the basic nutritional needs for many of the youth, this program offers a wonderful means of assisting students develop personal knowledge and skills, enhances the therapeutic process, often reduces their truancy rates and affords them the opportunity to earn a high school credit.

Meeting our Clients in the Community
The Community Support Team (CST) provides long-term, mobile and multi-systemic therapeutic counselling support to youth in conflict with the law. By building a trusting relationship with our young clients, an interdisciplinary team of counsellors encourage the development of coping strategies, life skills and self-confidence to direct positive change. Counsellors often meet youth clients within the community rather than in a traditional office setting with meals and snacks often being purchased for clients. Beyond providing a needed meal, food also helps to provide a more relaxed environment which supports the therapeutic process.
